About Us

Our Story

Owner and Executive Chef Chris Sarant saw the need Columbia had for a really good burger spot, so he decided to create it himself! After being laid off from their jobs during the pandemic in 2020, Chris and his wife Amy scraped their savings together and bought a modest little food trailer that, with the help of family and friends, quickly became one of the Midlands most popular food trucks. Known for our unique twists on the classic smash-style burger, our commitment to using fresh, local ingredients, our flavorful homemade sauces, and our dedication to delicious top-quality food, the popularity of Chubby’s Burgers grew quickly. Our signature Chubby Burger was featured as the Free Times Bite of the Week January 6, 2021, and in the 2021 Post and Courier Best of Columbia Awards we won Writers Choice for Best Hamburger, and were named one of the top 5 burgers in the midlands. We are so excited to bring our unique smash-burger concept menu with something for everyone, a full bar with 25 beers on tap, game room, TVs, and so much more to Chubby’s Burgers & Brewhouse at 420 McNulty Street. Our Founder: Chris Sarant

Chris was born in Manhattan where he grew up learning to cook from his father Nick, who owned a restaurant in NYC, and in his YiaYia’s kitchen. Then he moved to Charleston, SC where he worked in many upscale kitchens around the city and his passion for culinary arts was taken to the next level. Chris is known for creating unique flavor combinations and really showing off in the kitchen. He is all about using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to make the highest quality delicious food his friends, family, and customers have come to know and love. Chris has put his heart and soul into making Chubby’s Burgers what it is. With the unending love, support, and literal blood sweat and tears of his family and friends, his and Amy’s dream of Chubby’s Burgers & Brewhouse has become a reality. Chef Chris is so proud to be here and hopes that you will love this journey and this food as much as he does!
